Born from the success of Shelby County’s leadership conference, the St. Clair County Leadership Summit was the first of its kind for the district — a full day designed to do something simple and profound: convince young people that they have what it takes to lead.
The day brought together 251 middle and high school students for conversations sparked by two powerful voices — youth pastor Matt Legg and motivational speaker Timothy Alexander. The students didn’t just listen. They stood up. They asked questions. They debated what community really means. And when Timothy Alexander finished speaking, all 251 of them lined up to get a photo with him.
That’s not a passive audience. That’s a room that was moved.
Students left the summit with more than inspiration — they left with a new understanding of what community means. Not just the town they live in, but anywhere they choose to show up and lead.
The St. Clair County team had one job on summit day: be present for their students. Elevate’s job was to make sure everything else ran itself.

We took ownership of sound, visuals, hosting, run of show, and every engagement moment in between. With an emcee holding the day together, the St. Clair team never had to worry about transitions, tech, or keeping the room energized. That was on us.

The numbers are good. The moment that matters most isn’t one of them.
When Timothy Alexander finished speaking, every single student in that room — all 251 of them — stood up and waited in line to take a photo with him. No one asked them to. No one organized it. It just happened, because the room was that moved.
Student engagement during the open discussions was extraordinary. Young people were standing up in front of their peers, unprompted, sharing what community means to them and reflecting on how the speakers’ words had landed. The St. Clair Times even covered the event — a testament to the impact the summit had beyond the walls of the venue.
This was St. Clair County’s first leadership summit. It won’t be their last.
